"These pieces are inspired by traditional Maori Waka (Canoes), racing centreboard yachts on Wellington Harbour in my youth and a life long love of boats and New Zealand's coastal environments. I use various surface treatments to represent the endless variety of texture, colour and pattern that abounds in the world around us, especially on corals and sea creatures. The boat forms also reflects a love of traveling, homesickness, and the inspirations and friendship gained on my travels."
