Evening Stretch

A very special beach indeed. Oakura, Northland New Zealand.
I often end up at this beach after visiting a favourite gallery in the area. After a coffee and cake in the gallery café, I head down to the beach for a swim in summer or a stroll in winter.

Tuturiwhatu – New Zealand Dotterel. A lovely bird we often see on our Northland beaches.
Tuturi – to bend the knees, whatu – weave.
There they are weaving their way along the beach, knees snapping back and forth at great speed.
Stopping at times for a wee rest and a stretch.
