Anthony Carrie
Ant is a local Tutukaka surfer, musician, doctor, and artist. His work is a fusion of surrealism and nostalgia, depicting iconic New Zealand surf breaks through a lens I call "Tikiscapes"—a blend of mid-century kitsch, tiki culture, and Aotearoa’s distinctive coastal geography.
Painted from memory rather than photographs, these imagined landscapes are inspired by places he's surfed many times. Common motifs include firelight, distant volcanoes, god-like tiki figures, and unusual native flora and fauna—each piece a dreamlike tribute to the spirit of the coast.
