Glenys Nevin

Based in Whangārei, this artist specialises in the rare craft of cultivating and decorating Lagenaria siceraria — the Māori gourd, or hue. Traditionally used for vessels and tools, the gourds take six months to grow and another six to dry. Once cured, their hard, cork-like rind becomes a durable canvas for intricate, lasting decoration.
