Painted dried Guord - By Glenis Nevin
Lagenaria siceraria are commonly known as Maori guord or hue. Traditionally they were widely used for household purposes such as water bottles, preserving jars, scoops, dippers, pourers and bailers. The plants take 6 months to grow and up o 6 months to dry. The mature fruit need warm dry airy conditions to dry successfully. The plant needs tender loving care. It is frost tender, fragile and has a rambling creeper nature. The hard rind of the dried gourds has a cork-like quality which is durable and everlasting.
