Jewels in Time

Above, the glow worm (pūrātoke) shines like a tiny lantern of the night. Some might say “it’s just a dot of white,” but nature is never that simple. Suspended in its hammock, with glittering threads stretched like fishing lines, this little jewel of the forest waits patiently for its next meal. And yes, it proves the saying true: it’s hard to be glum with a light on your bum.

Native plants surround the scene, tying the story to Aotearoa’s unique bush. The kiwi’s tale is one of endurance—Mum lays the egg and wanders off, leaving Dad with the real work of guarding, hatching, and teaching survival.
